However, I did write this a while ago but never found a right time to post it.

For Wang, Spring 10 is about embracing sporty chic with a young playful twist. He adds pops of reds and blues to his central combination of sportswear greys, light leather browns and beiges. Although Wang refers back to his inspiration, American football, with squared shoulders, there is also a certain degree of girlyness. Something else that screams Wang's sporty theme is the sports bra shapes. He doesn't pile layers after layers of clothes on his models nor does he over do the minimalistic stuff; Wang's collection is just right. All of this hit me with a completely free and effortless vibe. Of course the presentation of the models contribute to this: messy loose plaits and natural nude make-up is cleverly worn here. I've already seen a couple of bloggers wear their hair like this and it is so gorgeous. I must say, I am really quite envious (I have short hair you see). Alexander Wang is awesome.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3663335787225061356.post-85480276378373170192009-10-04T15:53:00.003+01:002009-10-04T16:00:39.066+01:00Blurred

Sorry, no idea why it turned out blurred. Come back tomorrow if you're on the hunt for a fashion fix...

Beware of the enslaving squirty cream. Usually, it's just a treat for me at my gran and grandpa's house but I treated myself to a can in celebration of my first wage slip ever. I have it on everything - ice cream, coco pops, milk, coffee... Thanks to squirty cream, I have been turned from an avid coffee hater to somewhat of a caffeine addict. A habit I definitely do not wish to keep as my teeth are too easily stained. The last coffee phase I went through was when I got an E in a physics mock. In the midsts of sudden fear, I drank buckets of coffee to allegedly "keep me awake" while studying during the night. Okay, it probably didn't actually keep me awake since I made the coffee as weak as Mr Burns, but it did cause me to believe I was awake. In effect, same thing.

Enough coffee talk.

I just got back from a long day at work. Okay, long for me day at work. I work in a cafe where I am lowest in the rankings. This means, the worst jobs for me. It's like a baby taste of the big bad world, y'know, what life is really like. Alas, when you're so low on the ladder, the only place to go is up. Right? Right. ((: Smiley face because I'm glad to even have a job and get paid in a recession where so many people are made redundant in real jobs.

Enough work talk.

I read the sweetest post over at In The Bedroom Mirror. These are rare thangs because of the damned school uniform and the damned work uniform and the damned lack of social-life. So, nothing worth sharing there. ):

Crap, distracted with talking about stuff you didn't want to know. I gotta stop doing that. Anyways, both pieces are from my favourite charity shop - the Shaw Trust. I brought these two ridiculously over sized items when I was obsessed with charity shops and for a long time, they were stored away in the stuff-I-am-never-going-to-wear-cos-I-liked-its-price-tag-better-than-the-garment-itself section of my wardrobe. Obviously, that has changed.

The belt is brought from the Craft Tent at the Dorset Steam Fair. The bloggers who are in NY have fruitful posts of their daily wears and images from the shows they've been to. But alas, those of us who can only enjoy the spectacle from our computer screens have fruitful posts of our favourite shows. That said, my love goes to Marc Jacobs. In his ready-to-wear collection, the combination of modern buns that sit neatly on top and the Japanese Geisha inspired make-up presents the models perfectly. The hair and make up aren't tedious outcries of individuality nor are they silent forgotten efforts. For me, it was just right. I actually do my hair like this (with one bun on top) sometimes, although, not as high and not as neat. In a sea of fashion shows, it's no wonder Marc Jacobs is memorable.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3663335787225061356.post-72505015271598459472009-09-15T20:00:00.004+01:002009-09-15T21:01:09.158+01:00Beyonce

Images from: sweetandtalented.com

Today I realised how inspirational Beyonce's legs can be. I'm kinda used to "first days" now. I mean, I've been to four different schools in five years so new beginnings aren't a scary thing for me. Yep, I move around. Maybe it was because I had grown so used to good "first days" that I felt this particular first day was a bad day.

When I got there with my parents, we stood in a hall filled with Chinese parents for a while, looking extremely lost. We had no idea who was the teacher we spoke to on the phone and who was a parent. After a moment, we spoke to a teacher and she told a fellow classmate to take me to my class while my mother did some admin stuff.

When I got up there, there were about four students already seated, they took up a cluster of tables with one spare seat but that was taken up by some-one's bag. Great. So I had to sit on an empty table. On my own. I'm not so good in moments where I look like an utter Larry. I'm more of a social animal. I have to do something. So I turned my phone on. ¬¬ Thank goodness the teacher came in a couple of minutes later and she told me to join the little gang bang.

The first lesson went pretty fast. In the middle, we had a 20 minute break. Still no luck in the socialising. Most of the students stayed in the classroom, sitting on tables and chatting. They all knew each other very well, for this wasn't the first year they attended Chinese School. I went outside looking for my parents but couldn't find them. Turned out they'd gone to a local tool store. So I just walked around in the halls a bit, texted a couple of mates, looking a bit more lost.

I'm not sure what I was expecting. I'd definitely got my hopes up for something superlative. Best friend on the first day? Friend on the first day? Or at least potential friend on the first day? I don't know. I know it's only the first day. I'll try harder next time. Let's hope for a better second day.

And before I end this post, I just want to say: yes, I know I go to Chinese School to learn stuff not to socialise but I like being part of a pack. I mean who doesn't?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3663335787225061356.post-2403166375222876422009-09-05T13:40:00.002+01:002009-09-05T14:48:35.556+01:00Dorset Steam

For the second year running, my family and I caravan-ed at the Great Dorset Steam Fair. Once a year the fair gathers old lorries, old classic cars, old steam engines etc from all over England and the continent for a few days in late August/early September. After 41 years, the Dorset Steam has become the biggest fair of its type in Europe. Alas, for non-enthusiasts like me, there are others types of entertainment such as the craft tent, the fun fair, the evening shows and the boot fair so full of vintage goodies. I saw so many old style rings, y'know the kind the Olsen twins love and I wanted one so badly. But guess wha? My mother wouldn't let me get one. Thanks mother.

Sorry the pictures are a bit lame. I don't know how some bloggers can get those amazing photos that record every detail of their journey. I was about to take a photo of an extremely colour and beautiful stall of hand painted Russian dolls in the craft tent when my dad spotted the "please do not photograph" sign. Saved from a potential awkward moment. I got in trouble a couple of times in China when I took pictures of things I shouldn't have. Those embarrassing moments still haunt me today.

It was a good trip but I'm glad to be in a house again. Nothing beats the comforts of your home.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3663335787225061356.post-2176283128200676632009-09-01T12:59:00.009+01:002009-09-01T20:53:20.386+01:00September

Image from flickr account: polkadotandplaid

Today is September the 1st. I love September. September marks the beginnings of a new school year and for me, it also marks a fresh start. And I love the feeling of a fresh start. It's like writing in a brand new notepad. You're careful not to make mistakes and you try to write as perfectly as possible. Of course you do make those silly mistakes but don't worry, just start again and never give up.
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3663335787225061356.post-74705151282005205592009-08-31T16:58:00.009+01:002009-08-31T17:44:13.849+01:00Wishlist
A few bloggers are wishing for Fall so they can get out their stylish coats and their stylish boots and I would join them in their wishing-for-winter-club if I had these four beauties.

Everybody loves Yokoo so first up on my wish-list is this woolly hat.

Another Yokoo item. The plaid shirts are comfortable, keep you warm and they're fail-safe for any body size or shape. These lumberjack-like shirts can be dressed up with some smart skinnies and heels or layer it over a fitted graphic tee with sleeves rolled up for a more casual chic look. For femininity, pair the shirt with a high waisted skirt. Although they can more or less be worn all year round and definitely perfect for fall, they get no love from Auntie ZZ.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3663335787225061356.post-36205999375495726312009-08-25T20:51:00.003+01:002009-08-26T21:28:53.373+01:00Chinglish

I'm not even sure if this qualifies as "chinglish" but my cousin and I found it pretty amusing. The word itself makes sense and all that and it's definitely much cooler than the "elevator". We found it even more amusing when we were actually on the travelator. Yes, we laugh at unfunny things. It's the home of Beijing Olympics 2008. This is a place my littlest aunt and uncle visit on numerous occasions: on their own, with their friends, with my grandparents, with my cousin and again with me.

This huge steel structure was no hard thing to spot from the car. While we were able to stare at the Bird's Nest from afar, getting a little closer meant walking among a phalanx of colourful but faded sun umbrellas.

When we got to the "square", we snacked on ridiculously expensive ice lollies, joining all the other tourists. It was refreshing to escape under a bit of unclaimed shade and lick a melting lolly.

This triangular shaped architecture was built for all the journalists to use as their office for two weeks during the Olympics period.

Outside the Bird's Nest, you will find nothing but typical snapshots of Chinese city life. I don't know if it's living in a quiet town that's trained me to love the hussle and bussle of cities or what but I really enjoy being in populous areas. There is no sense of loneliness, oh no, that seems to blown away by the gentle breezes.

Above: a farmer sells fruits picked not so long ago on the edge of the road. Later, he'll ride home on his tricycle, hopefully empty of produce.

Below: a man pulling a secondhand TV, probably brought at a bargain price and absorbed by whatever coming out at the receiving end of his phone.

I must have visited the Bird's Nest at least three times. I returned there once at night, still surrounded by just as many tourists. At night, the lights are switched on, no sleep for Bird's Nest again!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com1
